The Eber Ward is a steel-hulled steamer that sank in Lake Michigan near the Straits of Mackinac after striking an ice floe in the spring of 1909 while hauling a load of corn. The wreck sits upright on the lake bottom in cold, dark water off the Michigan coast, with depths commonly reported in the range of 40 metres or more. Its intact structure, including the pilothouse and cargo holds, still draws technical and experienced wreck divers rather than beginners, largely due to the depth and the cold, low-visibility conditions typical of northern Lake Michigan. The hull remains a popular subject for Great Lakes wreck-diving trips out of the Charlevoix area.
