About this site
A 107 m Japanese steam cargo ship that struck a mine in 1917 and sank off Leucate; the crew swam ashore at La Franqui. The wreck (Le Japonais) rests in 32 m with the bow well preserved, the boiler silted and several elements still visible. Turbid water adds to the mystery of the site.
