About this site
Gili Mimpang is a small rocky outcrop off the southeast coast of Bali, near Candidasa, dived as a series of rocky swim-throughs and pinnacles just offshore. It is a well known site among Bali dive operators running trips from Candidasa and Padang Bai, popular for its varied topography of boulders and channels. It's rated an advanced dive, reaching around 30 metres over a reef bottom, with strong and often tricky currents around the exposed points, and visibility here is generally great. Some divers have also noted cold upwellings and a washing machine effect near full dark moon periods. Barracuda, mola mola, Napoleon wrasse, reef sharks, sea turtles, sweetlips, trevally, and tuna are regularly seen, and divers have also reported angelfish, jacks, leopard sharks, manta rays, nudibranchs, parrotfish, and snapper on the site's pinnacles.
