About this site
Gongam (공암), better known as Elephant Rock (코끼리바위), is a columnar-basalt sea stack with a natural arch off Ulleungdo's north coast, five to ten minutes by boat from Hyeonpo. Divers work the basalt columns and the cave-like passage under the arch from 10 m down to a maximum of 35 m. The site is sheltered enough for check dives on calm days and is one of the standard boat stops on the north coast.
