About this site
Palmyra Atoll is a remote coral atoll in the Northern Line Islands of the central Pacific, administered as a U.S. National Wildlife Refuge and not open to casual tourism. Inner Penguin Spit sits within the atoll's lagoon system, an area of scattered reef flats and channels between the atoll's small islets. Divers who have visited have reported bicolor chromis, bird wrasse, fivestripe wrasse, Pacific bullethead parrotfish, whitecheek surgeonfish, and two-spot red snapper around the site, along with stretches of plate and pillar coral on the bottom.
