About this site
Kami no Ose (上の大岩) is a boat site five minutes out from Shirasaki, Yura, on the Kii Peninsula of Wakayama, with a maximum depth of 18 m and an average around 10–14 m. Boulders of all sizes are scattered around the large rock that towers beside the anchor, including one undercut enough to form a swim-through arch, and pelagics are plentiful. Two anemone patches hold anemonefish, domino damsels and commensal shrimp, soft corals, sea fans and whip coral grow under the rocks, and schools of chicken grunt, knifejaw, stripey, Asian sheepshead wrasse and moray eels are seen; there is little current and the site is suitable from beginner level.
