About this site
Tatego (立厳) is a shore site at Shirasaki, Yura, on the Kii Peninsula of Wakayama, with a maximum depth of 10 m and an average around 5–8 m. Two huge rocks known as sendeiwa break the surface at low tide, and knifejaw, stripey and other fish live around them on terrain dramatic enough to pass for a boat site. Schools of chicken grunt, anemonefish, stonefish, seahorses and nudibranchs are seen, and a guide rope is laid; there is little current, buddy dives require 30 or more logged dives, with no minimum when accompanied by a guide or instructor.
