About this site
White Wall (ホワイトウォール) is the deepest of the Shirasaki sites, a wall dive eight minutes by boat below the marine park lookout at Shirasaki, Yura, on the Kii Peninsula of Wakayama, with a maximum depth of 29 m and an average around 15–20 m. Sunlight reflecting off the limestone peninsula keeps the site bright even on poorer-visibility days, and caves of all sizes run from divers' swim-throughs to holes sheltering spiny lobster. Cardinalfish and opaleye live in the caves, schools of chicken grunt, takabe and mullet numbering in the hundreds hold in mid-water, and whip coral and sea fans support crustaceans and nudibranchs. Guided dives only, with two guide ropes (one at 10–15 m, one on the bottom) running from the anchor to the peninsula; there is slight current and the site may close on rough days or on summer spring tides.
