Malpelo Island sits far off the Pacific coast of Colombia, a remote volcanic outcrop reached only by liveaboard after an open-ocean crossing of roughly 24 hours from Buenaventura. The island and its surrounding waters are protected as a marine sanctuary known for big animal encounters in strong offshore currents. La Ferreteria is one of the dive sites along its rocky underwater terrain.
