Malpelo Island sits in the eastern Pacific Ocean roughly 500 kilometres off the Colombian coast, a remote volcanic outcrop protected as a national park and marine sanctuary reachable only by liveaboard. The waters around it are known for pelagic encounters, particularly large aggregations of hammerhead sharks, along with silky sharks and other open ocean species drawn by the seamount's isolation. Diving here is generally considered advanced, given the strong currents and open ocean exposure typical of a site far from any sheltered coastline.
