About this site
Lodestone Reef sits on the Great Barrier Reef offshore from Townsville, in the central section of the reef system off the north Queensland coast, well out from the mainland and reached by boat across open water typical of dive trips departing the city. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 18 metres and is rated an intermediate dive. Divers have reported leopard sharks and nudibranchs here, and some have noted lost fishing tackle as a hazard on the reef.
