About this site
Manta Ray Reef lies off Bazaruto Island, part of the Bazaruto Archipelago on the Inhambane coast of Mozambique, an area reached by boat from lodges on the island or from the mainland around Vilanculos. The archipelago's coral reefs sit within the Indian Ocean channel between the islands and the mainland, an area known for strong currents and a mix of sandy channels and reef systems. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 35 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Divers here have reported fusilier, snapper, and the manta rays that give the reef its name.
