About this site
Okubo (大久保) is the largest beach on Miyakejima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, and a popular shore-entry site from the sand. The topography is varied, with a drop-off, an overhang, sand and an artificial reef; maximum depth 18 m, average around 12 m, suitable from beginner level. Life ranges from pelagics such as amberjack, yellowtail amberjack and white trevally to an anemonefish colony known as the anemonefish castle, seahorses, frogfish, Miyake dragonets and spawning bigfin reef squid.
