Miyaru Kandu

Miyaru Kandu sits within Vaavu Atoll, one of the smaller and less developed atolls in the central Maldives, southeast of Male. The channel here connects the inner waters of Felidhu Atoll to the open sea, a typical kandu formation found throughout the archipelago, and its name itself references sharks in Dhivehi. Dive operators typically reach sites like this by boat from Alimata or nearby resort islands in the atoll. Divers have reported grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, and tawny nurse sharks patrolling the channel, along with hawksbill turtles, black trevally, and parrotfish such as redlip and roundhead varieties. Sleek unicornfish and humpnose bigeye bream have also been spotted moving through the current here.
