About this site
Obana (大鼻) is the most distant boat dive at Owase on the Kii Peninsula coast of Mie, ten minutes from the harbour, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average around 18 m. Between 10 and 24 m large rocks pile on one another to form wide arches and domes that can be swum through. Large striped beakfish and schools of opaleye are common, amberjack and young yellowtail come in after the silver-stripe round herring and jacks, and barracuda and turtles have been seen. Little current, suitable from beginner/novice level.
