About this site
Owase Fish Reef (尾鷲 魚礁) is a boat dive at Owase on the Kii Peninsula coast of Mie, eight minutes from the harbour on the seaward side of Taigan Motoikuno, with a maximum depth of 22 m and an average around 18 m. Many 1 m and 2 m concrete reef blocks were dropped at random on the sand to attract pelagic fish, and the anchor line is fixed to the highest point at 17 m. Cardinalfish and damselfish school over the blocks, spiny lobster fill the gaps, and John Dory, bigfin reef squid and batfish appear in season with a good chance of amberjack and yellowtail. Little current, suitable from beginner/novice level.
