About this site
Taigan Motoikuno (対岸元行野) is a boat dive at Owase on the Kii Peninsula coast of Mie, eight minutes from the harbour and facing the open sea, with a maximum depth of 23 m and an average around 14 m. Boulders run out from shore and give way to sand from about 22 m, with two wide flat terraces at about 5 m and 10 m where anemonefish, banded coral shrimp, damselfish, anthias and blue-and-yellow damsels gather. Winter brings nudibranchs and crustaceans, Japanese bullhead sharks and banded houndsharks appear now and then, and in summer the Kuroshio carries in tropical strays. Little current, sheltered from westerly wind, suitable from beginner/novice level.
