About this site
Ohamasango (オオハマサンゴ) is a boat-dive reef on the south side of Kamiyama Island in the Chibishi islets, about 30 minutes from Naha, Okinawa, next to Labyrinth, with a maximum depth of 25 m and an average around 12 m. The centrepiece is a huge porites coral at about 15 m, with scattered coral heads at 8 to 14 m, arches and crevasses to explore by torch, and tops from 5 m used for introductory dives and courses. Spangled emperor and goatfish hover over the surrounding sand, with anemonefish, damselfish, nudibranchs and parrotfish; cuttlefish appear in the cool season. Visibility averages 20 m, current is usually slight but can run strongly on a spring ebb; suitable from beginner level.
