About this site

Palancar Gardens is part of the Palancar Reef system off the southwest coast of Cozumel, one of the island's best known dive areas. This section is prized for its coral formations, crevices, overhangs, and swim-throughs that wind between coral heads, making it a favorite for both leisurely reef dives and underwater photography. It is rated a beginner dive over reef bottom, with a maximum depth of 37.2 metres, light current, and great visibility. Divers commonly encounter angelfish, butterflyfish, damselfish, eagle rays, grouper, nurse sharks, parrotfish, and sea turtles along the sponges and gorgonians covering the coral heads, and barracuda, lobster, moray eels, pufferfish, squid, and wrasse have also been spotted here. The site's light current and shallower coral gardens make it approachable for most divers, while the deeper reaches toward the wall add more to explore for those who want it.
