About this site

Pickles Reef sits offshore of Islamorada in the Florida Keys, part of the reef tract running along the seaward side of the island chain. It is named for the pillar coral formations found there, which early observers thought resembled pickle barrels stacked on the seabed, and the reef structure is built from a mix of coral and old ballast stone from ships that once passed through the area. The site tops out around 7.6 metres, rated beginner, with no current and generally great visibility. Nurse sharks are a regular sight on the reef, and divers have also reported angelfish, grouper, snapper, and stingrays there.
