About this site
Pulau Rondo is an island in the north west of Pulau Weh, about an hour by boat, making it the most distant dive site there. It is run on special request only, and usually as two dives. Current is strong.
The first dive is around the current swept pinnacles southwest of the island. The terrain varies, with small walls covered in soft coral turning into slopes full of gorgonians. Many species of angelfish, trevally and barracuda live here, with the odd pelagic. In gentler current, look closely for tiny nudibranchs.
The second dive is usually in the shallows between the pinnacles and the island. The remains of a large steam ship lie here. Large parts of the engine room are still clearly recognisable, while the hull is mostly embedded in the healthy hard coral reef.
