About this site
Pyrgakia lies off Makronisos, a narrow island along the coast of the Lavreotiki Municipality in southeastern Attica, near the town of Lavrio. This part of the Aegean sits between the Attic mainland and the island of Kea, an area historically tied to Lavrio's mining and maritime activity. Boats diving this stretch typically launch from Lavrio or nearby coastal points. The reef here reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated a beginner dive, and divers have reported octopus among the rocks.
