About this site
Ras Umm Sid is a reef point at the southern tip of Sharm el-Sheikh, on the Sinai coast where the Gulf of Aqaba meets the Red Sea, marked above water by a lighthouse. The wall drops close to shore and is generally dived to around 15 metres, rated an intermediate site over reef terrain, with strong current a regular feature around the point. Eagle rays, garden eels, Napoleon wrasse, and nudibranchs are common here, and divers have also reported barracuda, batfish, grouper, snapper, tuna, scorpionfish, manta rays, hammerhead sharks, and even whale sharks passing along the drop-off. The combination of current and the chance of larger pelagics makes the point itself the more demanding part of the dive.
