About this site
Shark Bay is a small bay on the southeast coast of Koh Tao, an island in Surat Thani province in the Gulf of Thailand, along the same stretch of coastline as other shore and boat accessible sites on that side of the island. It is a reef dive to a maximum depth of around 22 metres, rated intermediate, with strong current and generally poor visibility, and some divers have flagged the current as a hazard worth respecting. The reef holds barracuda, fusiliers, snapper, moray eels, lionfish, and nudibranchs, along with clownfish, ghost pipefish and ornate ghost pipefish, seahorses and pipefish, and leopard sharks and whale sharks have been seen passing through. Divers have also reported cuttlefish, frogfish, octopus and mimic octopus, harlequin shrimp, scorpionfish, stingrays, groupers, and various jacks, trevally and tuna on the same reef.
