About this site
Shark's Cove sits on the North Shore of Oahu, near Pupukea, within the Pupukea Marine Life Conservation District. It is a lava rock cove popular for snorkeling and shore diving, with caverns and swim-throughs formed in the rock structure close to shore over a cave bottom. Conditions here shift with the season: summer months bring calm water, while winter swells generate surf that make it unsafe and it is often closed to diving during that period. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 13.7 metres, visibility is generally great, and it is rated an advanced dive. Divers have reported eagle rays, sea turtles, octopus, squid, and trevally around the volcanic formations, along with reef fish such as fusiliers, parrotfish, wedgetail triggerfish, Hawaiian convict surgeonfish, dusky surgeonfish, manybar goatfish, elegant coris, saddle wrasse, and blackspot sergeant, plus a range of nudibranchs including the caramel, Pease's, and Tom Smith's varieties.
