About this site

SMS Brummer lies in Scapa Flow, off the coast of Orkney in Scotland, one of the German High Seas Fleet ships scuttled there in June 1919 after the fleet was interned following the First World War. The wreck was a light cruiser and now rests on its side on the seabed of the Flow, a sheltered anchorage that has become one of the best known wreck diving areas in the United Kingdom. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 34 metres, with the wreck's hull and superstructure spread across the seabed below that. Scapa Flow's wrecks are reached by boat out of Orkney harbours such as Stromness or Houton, and the scuttled fleet remains draw divers specifically for the history rather than reef life.
