About this site
The Sophie Rickmers wreck lies off Weh Island, near Banda Aceh at the northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia, in waters where the Andaman Sea meets the Indian Ocean. The island is reached by boat from the Sumatran mainland via Sabang. The wreck rests on the seabed at a maximum depth of around 55 metres and is rated a technical dive, with narcosis noted as a risk at that depth. Divers exploring the site have reported angelfish, batfish, grouper, moray eels, and trevally around the structure.
