About this site
The Sophie Rickmers Wreck is a German ship from the Second World War, scuttled to avoid capture by the Dutch and now lying off Pulau Weh. It rests upright and intact, with healthy coral and marine life growing on it.
Rated technical at 50 metres, it is dived as a planned stage decompression dive with gas switches. Visibility is great, the water is 28 to 29 °C year-round, and nitrogen narcosis is a hazard at depth. Divers have reported giant groupers, giant morays, giant trevallies, batfish, unicorn filefish and black-spot angelfish.
