About this site
The Elbow sits at the southern tip of Turneffe Atoll, off the coast of Belize, where the reef wall makes a sharp turn and takes the full force of ocean current sweeping around the point. It is a wall dive to a maximum depth of about 24.4 metres, rated advanced due to the strong current that defines the site, with divers commonly hooking in to watch the blue. Dolphins and sea turtles are regularly seen here, and divers have also reported barracuda, eagle rays, grouper, jacks and amberjack, reef sharks, and snapper along the wall. Turneffe Atoll is reached by boat from Belize City or from resorts on the atoll itself, and The Elbow is typically dived as one stop on a multi-site day out on the reef.
