Toi Kurone Oki

Toi Kurone Oki (黒根沖) is a boat-dive site about 15 minutes from Yagisawa harbour on the west side of Kurone island off Koshimoda at Toi, Izu, on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, intermediate and above; the current can run fast at certain times, the site can close in west or south winds, and passing ferries are a consideration offshore. The reef top is at about 6 m and runs south-west, with soft corals on the boulders to the west, a small drop-off and sand, a mix that feels more like eastern Izu. Anthias, wrasse, anemonefish and parrotfish live on the reef, with the largest overwintering anemonefish population in Toi, and the highlight is a school of red sea bream up to 60–70 cm; red stingrays, eagle rays and dartfish are on the sand, cardinalfish and damselfish on the boulders, and surgeonfish and largescale blackfish to the north, with amberjack and yellowtail in autumn.
