Torizaki Wannai

Torizaki Wannai (通り崎・湾内) is a shore-entry site at Toi, Izu, on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, from beginner level with no current, and diveable in all but a few days a year unless a typhoon or strong north wind blows. It is the only shore-entry site in the area, a small pouch-shaped bay inside the larger bay, opened to general diving after years as a training-only area, with three entries: a diving stage, a slope and the hotel beach. The bottom shelves gently through a mix of sand and rock; the sand off the stage has sea moths, shrimp gobies, gurnards, flying gurnards, flounder and box crabs, artificial reefs of rock and a jungle-gym frame at around 6 m hold damselfish, anthias, cardinalfish and moray eels, and the rocky left side out to the cape carries frogfish, blennies, pipefish, butterflyfish, boxfish and ghost pipefish; sea urchins are numerous, so buoyancy matters.
