USS Apogon is a Balao-class submarine sunk during the 1946 Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, used as a target vessel for the Baker underwater detonation. The wreck sits upright on the lagoon floor at depths of around 55 to 60 metres, making it a technical dive reserved for experienced, well-trained divers with appropriate certification for depth and decompression procedures. Its hull remains largely intact, and divers who visit Bikini's fleet of test wrecks often combine it with the larger ships like the Saratoga, though the Apogon is notable simply as one of the few submarines accessible to recreational-technical divers anywhere. Access is limited to occasional liveaboard expeditions to Bikini Atoll given its remote location in the central Pacific.
