Advanced Bommie

Advanced Bommie is a coral pinnacle on the outer Great Barrier Reef off Queensland, part of the Ribbon Reefs system reached by liveaboard out of Cairns or Port Douglas. The bommie rises from deeper water to within a few metres of the surface, with a maximum depth of around 40 metres and dives generally worked at shallower depths depending on where divers move around the structure. It is known for its rich coral coverage and the variety of reef fish and pelagics that pass along the drop off nearby, making it a popular stop on Ribbon Reef itineraries. It is rated an advanced dive, and operators often cite current around the bommie as the reason for that grading.
