About this site
Arishimadashi (蟻島出し) is a boat site five minutes out from Shirasaki, Yura, on the Kii Peninsula of Wakayama, with a maximum depth of 18 m and an average around 12–14 m. Boulders of all sizes surround the anchor and the main rock, an anemone beside the rock hosts anemonefish and domino damsels, and the sand holds many dartfish and shrimp gobies living with snapping shrimp. Two whip corals near the anchor carry whip-coral gobies and shrimp, and chicken grunt, takabe, jacks and bigfin reef squid pass through; a guide rope is laid, there is little current, and the site is suitable from beginner level.
