About this site
Hitotsune (一ツ根) is a pinnacle site five minutes by boat from Shirasaki, Yura, on the Kii Peninsula of Wakayama, with a maximum depth of 25 m and an average around 10–16 m. A huge rock runs east to west across a boulder seabed, and its highest eastern section is Hitotsune itself; the boulders are covered in black coral, whip coral and gorgonians and the rock is buried in soft coral. Jacks, damselfish, takabe, amberjack, chicken grunt, rainbow runner, red seabream and anthias are seen along with macro subjects such as whip coral shrimp and gobies, with slight current. The site is open only from 2 May to 10 September and requires 30 or more logged dives with a guide or instructor, or 50 or more for buddy dives.
