About this site
Bitaga Ne (ビタガ根) is a boat-dive site 5–6 minutes out from Atami on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 39 m and an average around 10 m, suitable from beginner level. A large pinnacle rises like a tower, covered in soft coral and holding fish year-round; spring is the nudibranch season, autumn to winter brings rare species and large pelagics, and in winter ocean sunfish are met with good regularity. Depth is relatively easy to control here and the site is close to shore, so beginners can join.
