About this site
Akaiwa (赤岩) is a shallow coral-reef pinnacle 25 minutes by boat from Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands, Tokyo, with a maximum depth of 15 m and an average around 10 m. A school of batfish holds around the mooring buoy and there is an arch formed of Porites coral, with soldierfish, red and ornate spiny lobsters and nudibranchs in the rock. There is little current and the relaxed site is suitable from beginner level.
