About this site
Searching for Copper Harbor Light to guide them to port on a dark, snowy night, the City of Superior finally found it - running aground just offshore. Too far ashore to be pulled free, a rising northern gale broke her in two at the middle. Much of her cargo was eventually recovered. Lies in about 10.7 m; sank 1857.
