About this site

Colombia Reef sits off the southwest coast of Cozumel, part of the island's well-known chain of reef sites within the Mesoamerican Reef system in the Yucatan Peninsula. This spur and groove reef features coral pinnacles, crevices, overhangs and swim-throughs rising from a sandy bottom, with a maximum depth of around 24 metres and great visibility. Currents here run strong, and despite the depth and current the site is rated beginner. Divers commonly encounter barracuda, eagle rays, grouper, lobster, nurse sharks, parrotfish, reef sharks and sea turtles, with angelfish, butterflyfish, frogfish, jacks, octopus, seahorses, snapper, stingrays, surgeonfish and wrasse also spotted from time to time. Surface swell adds another factor divers should be ready for when entering and exiting the water. Its mix of current and structure makes it a popular drift dive along this stretch of Cozumel's west side.
