About this site
Cumberland and Chisholm are two vessels wrecked off Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior, off the Minnesota shore in a remote island archipelago reached mainly by boat or seaplane from Grand Portage or Houghton, Michigan. The park's cold, clear waters hold a cluster of well preserved shipwrecks scattered along the island's rocky coastline, and this site reaches a maximum depth of around 27.4 metres. The Cumberland was a passenger steamer that struck the rocks here in the early 1900s, and the Chisholm went down nearby, leaving overlapping wreckage in the same stretch of water.
