About this site
Eel Garden lies along the Sinai coast near Sharm El Sheikh, in the northern Red Sea's Straits of Gubal area, close to Ras Umm Sid. The site takes its name from its garden eel colonies, and the reef bottom also holds lionfish and pufferfish, with barracuda, eagle rays, fusiliers, lizardfish, humphead wrasse, nudibranchs, pipefish, snapper, and unicornfish reported by divers as well. It reaches a maximum depth of 50 metres and is rated technical, though current on the day is generally light. Strong currents have been noted as a hazard here, and some divers have also flagged difficult entries and exits in wind and waves along with fire coral on the reef.
