About this site
Futo Ne (フト根) is a boat site 6–7 minutes from Ukishima on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka. The pinnacle is covered in dense soft coral with dramatic rock formations and holds large schools of fish; maximum depth 30 m, average around 15 m, intermediate and above, with a constant current that ranges from gentle to strong. Year-round residents include frogfish, red sea bream, longtooth grouper, anthias, butterflyfish, damselfish, many nudibranch species and commensal shrimps, while from May to October schools of chicken grunt, takabe, jacks and sardines draw amberjack, yellowtail and rainbow runners around the reef.
