About this site
The Genesee Chief was built as a twin-screw propeller, was rebuilt as a single-screw, then as an unrigged barge, and eventually as a two-mast schooner. She became severely waterlogged and was left at the Millard Olds docks in Cheboygan in 1891. Eventually she was raised from the bottom and towed into Duncan Bay to be abandoned near the dropoff, off Cheboygan State Park. She is a great snorkeling site, with many fish hiding within the recesses of her remaining timbers. Lies in about 3 m; sank 1891.
