About this site
Godo (ゴードー) is a shore-entry site on Izu Oshima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, dived around a cylindrical pinnacle known as Rosoku-iwa (candle rock) and a large reef projecting offshore that ends in a drop-off. Both are covered in soft coral in uncountable numbers; maximum depth around 30 m, average around 12 m, suitable from beginner level, with current common further out, so buoyancy control and air management matter. Anthias swarm the tip of the reef, metre-class longtooth grouper pass below, and thresher and requiem sharks are seen relatively often.
