About this site
Kenpo Shita (健保下) is a shore-entry site on Izu Oshima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, where several long lava reefs run down a gentle slope, with low-ceilinged passages that can be swum through. Japanese bullhead sharks and banded houndsharks often sleep in these holes, and in one of them houndsharks lie stacked on top of each other within close viewing range; maximum depth around 25 m, average around 12 m, suitable from beginner level, with current at times. Turtles are also common, and a torch is useful as the holes are completely dark.
