About this site
Gorodai (ゴロダイ) is a boat-dive site 10 minutes out from Futo, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, intermediate and above, with current at times. The dive crosses sand at 20 m, where flounder and angel sharks over 1 m lie, then soft-coral rock to a huge stage with its top at 22 m and base at 27 m, thickly covered in soft coral and schooling anthias and butterflyfish. Waiting on the stage can bring schools of 30–60 eagle rays, turtles, banded houndsharks and guitarfish, as well as pinecone fish colonies, chicken grunt, sheepshead wrasse and old red sea bream; a safety decompression stop on ascent means solid buoyancy control is needed.
