About this site
Futamata-Maekado (フタマタ〜マエカド) is a boat-dive site 2 minutes out from Futo, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 30 m, for beginner to intermediate divers and above, with current. A boulder slope runs down from 5 m into a soft-coral zone from about 15 m that has the densest fish life and most colourful soft coral in Futo, with schools of gnomefish, jack, takabe, chicken grunt, boarfish, rudderfish and largescale blackfish. Large Japanese bullhead sharks and longtooth grouper are also seen; the bottom falls steeply from about 25 m to 30 m and 40 m, and the current can be strong at times, so beginners need to be accompanied.
