Yokobama

Yokobama (ヨコバマ) is a shore-entry site at Futo, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 30 m, suitable from beginner level with little current, and one of Futo's two main beach sites with separate one-way entry and exit slopes and handrails. Offshore the bottom is calm sand with shrimp gobies, frogfish and the occasional angel shark or guitarfish, while the lava-flow rock along the shore carries an anemone field with anemonefish and, to the right, a soft-coral zone with ornate ghost pipefish and cleaner shrimp; Futo Hole, a light-filled rock formation to the right of the entry, can be reached at high tide. Squid spawning frames are set in early summer, autumn brings tropical drift-ins, yellowtail, amberjack, a mullet school that fills the water column each October and bannerfish schools of over 200, and winter can produce snipefish, anglerfish and ocean sunfish.
