About this site
Ichi no Ne (一の根) is an outlying pinnacle on the west side of Hachijo-kojima, opposite Koike Ne, 25–35 minutes by boat from Hachijojima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo. Drop-offs and crevasses make it a site for topography enthusiasts; maximum depth 30 m, average around 20 m, intermediate and above, with constant fast current. Pyramid butterflyfish line the wall in summer, large schools of 60–70 cm bigeye trevally, uncommon around Hachijo, are met a little way off the reef, and spiny lobster and longfin amberjack are typical; it is also a well-known rock-fishing spot and cannot be dived when anglers are on the reef.
