About this site
Koike Ne (小池根) is a boat site 20–30 minutes from Hachijojima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo, and with Ichi no Ne one of the most-dived sites at Hachijo-kojima. A huge reef in good tidal flow gives a high chance of pelagics, and when the water cools large schools of bannerfish can be seen; maximum depth 30 m, average around 18 m, intermediate and above, with current that is sometimes strong, usually running in one direction over the fairly flat terrain. Pygmy seahorses live on a sea fan on the north side and are a favourite subject for photographers, alongside triggerfish, fusiliers and boarfish.
