About this site
Hakojima (箱島) is a boat dive at Mikiura in Owase on the Kii Peninsula coast of Mie, twelve minutes from the harbour, with a maximum depth of 27 m and an average around 15 m. Opened in 2002, the dive circles a flat-topped island and typically has the best visibility in Mikiura, with vertical walls set against white sand. From winter to early summer angel sharks and guitarfish appear, along with large flounder and stingrays, and green turtles are seen at times. Current at times, suitable from beginner level.
